Building on the tradition of our annual math puzzle, this challenge tasks you with creating equations for numbers 1 to 20 using only the digits 2, 0, 2, and 4. Unleash your mathematical creativity by arranging the digits in any order, employing operators such as +, -, x, /, raising to a power, factorial, square root, and parentheses.
Here’s an example for the digit 1: (2 + 0 + 2) / 4. Get ready to unravel the magic of mathematical expressions!
There are certain rules to follow
- You can only use the digits 2, 0, 2, 4.
- The expression must contain all four digits.
- The four digits can be used in the expression in any order.
- The operators +, -, x, /, (raised to a power), factorial, square root, and parentheses are all valid.
Here is a solution for the first 20 numbers.
1 = (2 + 0 + 2) / 4
2 = 2 + ( 2 + 4 ) x 0
3 = (2 + 0 + 4) / 2
4 = 2 + 2 + ( 4 x 0 )
5 = 2 + 2 + 4^0
6 = ( 2 x 0 ) + 2 + 4
7 = 2 + 2 + 4 – 0!
8 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 4
9 = 2 + 0! + 2 + 4
10 = 2 + ( 2 x 4 ) + 0
11 = 2 + ( 2 x 4 ) + 0!
12 = ( 4! ) /2 + (2 x 0 )
13 = ( 4! )/2 + (2 x 0 )!
14 = ( 4! )/2 + 2 + 0
15 = ( 4! )/2 + 2 + 0!
16 = ( 2 x 2 x 4 ) + 0
17 = ( 2 x 2 x 4 ) + 0!
18 = ( 4^2 ) + 2 + 0
19 = ( 4^2 ) + 2 + 0!
20 =(4+ 0!) x 2 x 2
You can further extend this activity to write expressions for numbers between 1 – 100 using digits 2,0,2 and 4.
