10 FUN Show and Tell Ideas for Preschool

Show and tell is a beloved tradition in preschool classrooms across the country. It provides an opportunity for students to share something they’re passionate about with their classmates, and it helps build communication and social skills.

What is show AND tell activity?

Show and tell is an activity where children bring in an object from home and then talk about it to the rest of the class. It is a great way for children to show off their favorite things and to share their interests with others. It can also help to develop confidence and communication skills. Show and tell usually takes place in early childhood settings such as preschool or kindergarten. However, it can be adaptable to any age group. For example, it can be used as an icebreaker activity for new students or staff in a school. It can also be a fun activity for adults at a party or family gathering. Whether you are 3 or 30, show and tell is a great way to engage with others and learn about new things. If you’re looking for a good show and tell idea, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few of our favorites.

What should a kid take to Show and Tell?

1. A Favorite Toy

This is a classic show and tell idea for a reason. It’s easy, low-pressure, and kids always enjoy sharing their favorite toys with their friends. If your child is struggling to choose just one toy, try giving them a few options to pick so they have time to think about it.

2. A Family Heirloom

Do you have any family heirlooms that your child could bring in for show and tell? This could be anything from a piece of art to your grandparent’s pocket watch. Not only is this a great way to introduce your child’s classmates to their heritage, but it’s also a chance to teach them about the importance of taking care of precious items.

3. Something You Made Yourself

Whether it’s a craft project, a science experiment, or something else entirely, kids love showing off things they made themselves. This is a great option if your child is shy or doesn’t have any favorite toys. It’s also an opportunity for you to get creative together and come up with something unique!

4. An Animal Friend

Does your child have a pet? If so, see if they would be interested in bringing them (or a picture of them) to the preschool. If not, maybe they have another type of animal friend, like a stuffed animal or toy pet. This is a fun option that always goes over well with classmates.

5. A Vacation Souvenir

If you took a trip recently, see if there’s something small your child could bring back as a souvenir to share with their friends. This could be anything from keychain to postcard to fridge magnet. It’s a great way to help your child remember all the fun they had on vacation while also teaching them about other places in the world!

6. FAMILY PHOTOS

This is a great way for children to share stories about their loved ones with their classmates. Have your child choose a few favorite photos of family members ( grandparents, pets, etc.) to bring in and share.

7. A Collection

It can be anything from rocks or sea shells your kids collected on their recent beach trip, or a plant that they take care of or an action figure that they love to play with. The important part is that your child is able to explain why they like the collection and what makes it special to them.

8. A Homemade Toy

This could be something as simple as a paper doll or a board game that your child has created themselves. It’s a great way to encourage creativity and give your child a chance to be the teacher for once!

9. Something from Nature

A pretty flower, an interesting rock, or even a leaf from your garden can be turned into a show-and-tell item with the help of an eager imagination. This is also a great opportunity to talk about the changing seasons with your child.

10. A Favorite Book FOR SHOW AND TELL

Books are always popular choices for show-and-tell, but mix things up by having your child bring in their favorite book instead of one they’re currently reading. They can share why they like it so much and maybe even do a quick read-aloud for the class!

What do preschoolers learn from show and tell?

Show and tell is a time-honored tradition in preschool classrooms. Preschoolers learn a lot from this activity. It helps them to develop confidence in front of a group, and to practice articulating their thoughts. It also allows them to share their interests with their peers, and to learn about the interests of others. In addition, show and tell provides a chance for preschoolers to learn new vocabulary words and to expand their understanding of the world around them. As such, show and tell is an important part of the preschool curriculum. By encouraging kids to participate in this activity, we can help them to develop important skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
