This type of logic puzzle uses pictures instead of words, which means it can be a great way to get kids interested in problem solving and critical thinking. WHAT IS A REBUS PUZZLE

Have you ever seen a picture puzzle in the newspaper? Ever wondered what are those word puzzles with pictures called ? They are often called “rebus” puzzles. Sometimes called a pictogram, rebus puzzles combine letters, numbers, and pictures to form a word or phrase. The rebus is an old form of communication, and it’s still used sometimes for teaching children how to read today!

Generally speaking, we mainly think that the only way to learn new words is by studying them in a book. The truth is that there are many other options that can be equally effective. One of these great alternatives is called rebus puzzles. A rebus puzzle is an illustrated word puzzle where each illustration represents a common word or phrase. They’re fun and effective ways to help increase your vocabulary quickly!

Solving these types of puzzles can be great fun for children and adults alike.

HOW DO YOU SOLVE A REBUS PUZZLE

Rebus puzzles are an excellent way for kids to practice reading comprehension. It teaches them the importance of looking for clues in order to solve a problem, which is an important skill in school and life. This activity also promote creativity, divergent thinking, and help develop vocabulary skills. Plus it’s just plain fun!

When decoding a rebus problem, pay attention to word placement, size, color, and quantity, and then interpret the result.

An example of a rebus puzzle would be

  1. R|E|A|D|I|N|G = ‘Reading between the lines’.
  2. mil1ion = 1 in a million
  3. rebus puzzle turkey = tub – b + r + key -> tu + r + key = turkey

HOW TO USE THE REBUS PUZZLES

You can either solve these rebuses all at once ( answer sheets included ) or use some of the suggestions below . It’s totally up to YOU !

  • Young kids might enjoy it if their lunchbox has notes from this puzzle – solving endevaor ! You can cut out out individual rebus puzzle from the printable…
  • Use them as an ice breaker activity during the beginning of school years.
  • Make an interactive game in classroom parties or family gatherings by having kids “write down” their answers – this way they will remember what was said better than just hearing it.

A logician went on vacation to an island. There were two different tribes that lived on the island. One tribe always told the truth and one tribe always lied. When he reaches to a fork in the road, he must ask a local person which way to go to reach the village. The logician has no way of knowing if the person is telling the truth or lying. He pause for a bit, then asks only one question. He knows which path to take based on the response.
