How to make a Scavenger Hunt for kids

Scavenger hunt are a popular game among kids. They’re simple to set up and even simpler to play, but sometimes the most difficult part is coming up with new creative ideas! I’ve found that if you take into account what your target audience enjoys then their interests will guide everything else. This article will show you how to put together an effective scavenger hunt without resorting to overthinking or being too creative; it’s all about finding just the right mix between challenge level (medium) AND flexibility so that your guests can enjoy themselves no matter what their interests tend towards–whether they be newbie treasure seekers like me or old pros at this type of activity who want some extra excitement.

What are SOME scavenger hunt ideas FOR KIDS?

There are many different types of scavenger hunt you can do with your kids. You can have them find items in the house or you could go on a walk around the neighborhood and have them find things that are outside. Some people might want to get more creative by having their children hunt for specific objects, like only finding leaves that are specific color. There is no limit to how much fun you can have while doing this activity! Here are some of my kids favorite scavenger hunt themes.

  • Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • STEM Themed Scavenger Hunt
  • Backyard Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • Spring Themed Scavenger Hunt
  • Halloween Themed Scavenger Hunt
  • Summer Themed Scavenger Hunt
  • Glow in the dark Scavenger Hunt

HOW TO MAKE A scavenger hunt FOR KIDS

Scavenger hunt is an excellent way to get your kids out of the house and exploring their surroundings. They’re also great for teaching them about teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Here are some suggestions on how to create and choose the type of scavenger hunt you want to do :

CREATE THE ITEM LIST

The first step is deciding what kind of items you want people to find. Some examples include things like “a picture with someone wearing red shorts” or “something that starts with the letter A.” Once you have an idea about what kinds of items should be included in your list, it’s time to decide how challenging they should be.

You can take scavenger hunt up a notch by writing down what the item does, instead of writing down the item names ! You could use riddles also. It will give players the clues they need in order to find out what’s been hidden!

For example, instead of writing the item ‘MIRROR’, you can write ‘You see me in the morning, And at night too. Whenever you keep me clean it’s a REFLECTION of – guess who ?’

Time Constraints

There should be ample time for guests to locate most items. Depending on how many items the kids have to find, the scavenger hunt will last a certain amount of time.  Half an hour is usually a good starting point if there are many items. For kids under five, limit time at most fifteen minutes. So it won’t be too short or boring, and will keep them engaged.

You can make the search easier by including more common objects (like trees) or harder by requiring participants to find something specific (like a tree with yellow leaves). It all depends on who’s participating and how much time they have available!

Challenge Level

For something even more challenging, try creating a themed scavenger hunt where each item is related to the theme. For example, if your kids want to do an indoor Halloween themed scavenger hunt then make sure they find clues all around the house giving tips about how to get there and what treats are waiting inside!

A BASKET to collect the items FROM SCAVENGER HUNT

Do you have young players? If so, then it’s best to provide them with an easily-carrying container for all their scavenger hunt items. That way they can avoid losing anything small in their hurry or excitement about finding things! You don’t need anything special; just make sure what kind of container will work well (e.g., a sack or a small paper bag).:

DECIDE THE Location oF THE SCAVENGER HUNT

Finally, think about where everyone will go during their search – this could mean choosing between an indoor space like a school gymnasium versus an outdoor location like a park or beachfront area. It also means making sure there aren’t any obstacles that might prevent young people from completing the task at hand.

Also, instead of hiding items during an outdoor scavenger hunt, have kids circle out the photo of an item from a printable list. This is ideal for parks, particularly national parks, where taking anything from nature is prohibited.

CHOOSE PRIZES FOR THE WINNING TEAM/PLAYER

This is the perfect opportunity to get your kids working together in a team setting.

You can choose any prize you want for your scavenger hunt, but keep in mind the ages of players when choosing a prize. Here are some ideas:

  • Small toy is a great choice if it’s geared towards little kids.
  • Movie tickets or gift cards would make a great gifts for older children.

How do you write a clue for a scavenger hunt?

A scavenger hunt can be both exciting and challenging. How should participants be given scavenger hunt clues? The most common method for creating clues is to use trails, where each answer reveals the next at its location! To complete the trail, participants must locate the hidden paper and then use the information on it to locate other items along the way. Because there will be no repetition of answers throughout the game, this method keeps things interesting.

QUICK PLANNING GUIDE FOR scavenger hunt?

  1. Decide on the length of your scavenger hunt
  2. Pick a date and time for the scavenger hunt
  3. Determine what you would like to find during the scavenger hunt
  4. Come up with some clues that will help people find items during the event.
  5. Choose an area where you want to host the event.
  6. Have some container to collect the items for young players.
  7. Find the meeting place once the scavenger hunt ends.
  8. Select a prize for the winner team.
  9. Have fun!
