Two Frame Animation – An Art Project for Kids

Two frame animation art project for kids

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Animation ? Pixar, isn’t it ? In fact, the art of animation has captivated all ages since a long time. Now, what if I told you that I have an art project for your kids where they can make their own two frame animation. Does that sound exciting to you ? And in case if you are wondering, a two frame animation is a method in which two exactly similar images with a slight variation are drawn on two different screens to create a moving effect.

To get started on making the amazing two frame animation, we will need our kids to gather all the supplies required for their art project.

Materials Needed : A paper and a pencil.

What ?

Yes, that’s all they need , its that simple.

Steps to Make the Animation

Take a long strip of paper and fold it in half.

In the middle of the top strip, draw a bird with wings facing  upward .

On the bottom strip draw a similar bird with wings facing downward. Make sure the second drawing is exactly at the same height as the top drawing.

Now curl the top strip using a pencil .

Move the curled strip up and down you will see the bird flapping her wings.

Have your kids try different design like a happy and sad face, opening and closing eyes , a standing and running kid, the possibilities are endless. Let their imagination run wild and have them create simple animations.
