Reading together everyday with your kid is your bonding time with them. It can give a boost to their confidence and can develop in them a love for reading. We should read different kinds of poetry and simple books with our kids and along the way introduce them to new and challenging books. Reading familiar books multiple times can also increase their fluency. Here, I have compiled a list of books for 1st and 2nd graders which they would love reading.
It’s important to start introducing them to books on different topics like science, non-fiction and fiction. Young kids should also be reading books on social and emotional topics which teaches them empathy and compassion at a young age. They might be eager to start chapter books, so keep them motivated. My boys love to go to the library and choose their own books. to read. My elder son who is an avid reader, started reading chapter books when he was in kindergarten. On the other hand, my younger son loves to read comic style books. To develop my younger son’s interest in reading and finishing a chapter book, we take turns reading 1 or 2 chapters a day. It is also important to ask questions about the story so that you know if they have can comprehend it well.
Some of our favorite books for 1st and 2nd graders are
Read Aloud Books
Books on Science and Nature
Books on Math
You can also find a list of some of the great books for kindergarteners here. Hope some books would interest you and your emerging young readers.
