Books List for 1st & 2nd Graders (Age 6-8)

Best Books recommendation for 1st and 2nd graders

Reading together everyday with your kid is your bonding time with them. It can give a boost to their confidence and can develop in them a love for reading.  We should read different kinds of poetry and simple books with our young early readers and along the way introduce them to new and challenging books. Reading familiar books multiple times can also increase their fluency.

Start introducing them to books on science topics, non-fiction books, books which teach empathy and emotions. They might be eager to start chapter books, so keep them motivated. My boys love to go to the library and choose their own new books. My elder son, Manvik who is now in 4th grade is an avid reader and started reading chapter books before even starting first grade. On the other hand, my younger boy, Tanmay who is in 1st grade starts to read a chapter book independently but is quickly tired. To keep him motivated to finish the book, we take turns reading 1 or 2 chapters a day.  It is also important to ask questions about the story so that you know if they have can comprehend it well.

Some of our favorite books to read in 1st and 2nd grade are

Read Along Books

Books on Science and Nature

Books on Math

Bedtime Math: A Fun Excuse to Stay Up Late Series By Laura Overdeck

Chapter Books

Hope some books would interest you and your emerging young readers.

Happy Reading !
